Dr. Ambarish Dutta is Professor of Epidemiology at the Indian Institute of Public Health, Bhubaneswar, an institution of the Public Health Foundation of India.
Academic Background
Dr. Dutta earned his medical degree from Calcutta National Medical College. He later completed a Master of Public Health at the University of Leeds and a PhD in epidemiology and public health at the University of Exeter, where his doctoral research examined ageing and age-related chronic diseases.
Professional Experience
He began his public health career with the Urban Leprosy Control Programme in Calcutta and later joined the World Health Organization’s India office as a medical consultant for the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme. For almost a decade, he provided technical assistance to state and central health departments and tuberculosis training and research institutes across India.
Research and Contributions
His research includes tuberculosis, malaria, hypertension, maternal and child health, environmental health, and the epidemiology of predictors of age-related disease. He analyses programme data to inform policy and leads implementation research in infectious-disease control.
Teaching and Mentorship
Dr. Dutta teaches epidemiology and biostatistics to postgraduate public health students and guides doctoral scholars.
