Prof. Mirfin M. Mpundu
Co-founder and Executive Director, ReAct Africa | Adjunct Professor of Global Health
Prof. Mirfin M. Mpundu is an international public health expert with over 30 years of global leadership experience in infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and One Health. He is Co-founder and Executive Director of ReAct Africa and serves as an Adjunct Professor of Global Health at GIPH in India, City, University of London, and the University of Cape Town.
Professional Experience
Prof. Mpundu has supported countries across Africa and Asia in developing, reviewing, and implementing their One Health National Action Plans on antimicrobial resistance. He previously served as Senior AMR Advisor at USAID, managing strategic engagement and providing oversight for the Emerging Threats Division’s involvement in AMR across U.S. Government interagency platforms and multilateral policy forums. He has also held senior leadership roles with ICARS and served as Executive Director of EPN.
Global AMR and One Health Leadership
Throughout his career, Prof. Mpundu has worked closely with major global and regional institutions, including the World Bank, WHO, FAO, WOAH, Africa CDC, SADC, and UNCTAD. His work focuses on international collaboration and policy leadership in infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and One Health.
Academic and Advisory Roles
In addition to his adjunct professorships, Prof. Mpundu serves on several high-level advisory and governance platforms. He is a member of the WHO STAG-AMR, Co-Chair of the External Advisory Board for the Newton AMR Drug Discovery Programme, and a Board Member of SEDRIC.
