Inauguration of the Centre for Gender Studies

The Centre for Gender Studies at the Global Institute of Public Health (GIPH) was officially inaugurated by acclaimed writer and journalist Smt. K. A. Beena on 29 November 2023 at the Auditorium of Ananthapuri Hospitals and Research Institute. Smt. K. A. Beena also delivered the inaugural address.

The formal ceremony opened with a welcome address by Dr. Athira K., MPH Scholar at GIPH. Dr. SS Lal, Professor and Head of Public Health at GIPH, introduced the new centre, followed by the presidential address from Prof. Dr. A. Marthanda Pillai, Director of GIPH. Dr. Anishia Jayadev, Faculty at IMG Trivandrum, delivered the keynote address. GIPH Principal Prof. K. Rajasekharan Nayar and Alive Foundation Director Dr. Shiraz Bava offered felicitations, and Dr. Sethu Krishnan R., MPH Scholar at GIPH, delivered the vote of thanks.

The inauguration programme also included a seminar on “Gender Awareness and Issues.” Expert lectures were delivered by Dr. Malavika Binny, Head and Assistant Professor at the Department of History, Kannur University, and Dr. S. K. Harikumar, Senior National Consultant in HIV/AIDS, Behaviour, Sexuality and Gender, and CEO of the Centre for Advanced Research in Health and Human Behaviour.
